So, if you are a friends fan, you’ll remember Rachel’s boss, Joanna. In this episode, Joanna has an accident, which leads to her demise. Unfortunately for Rachel, this happened before Joanna could sort out her promised promotion. The thing that makes my mind wonder about this episode, is the fact that we never see chandlers reaction to Joanna’s death. If you recall, Joanna and chandler had a romantic relationship (s3, ep20), it was a pain for Rachel, and well, honestly quite a bit freaky for everyone (we all remember the handcuffs, I think Rachel does to).

Although their relationship was never anything to be considered serious, wouldn’t it bother chandler to find out his old flame had passed away? I always wondered why his reaction wasn’t written into the script. I mean, obviously Rachel would have told the gang about the accident, mainly due to the fact that it cost her a promotion. So, I maybe would have liked to see how chandler would have reacted to it. As we all know, before Chandler started dating Monica, and even a little bit after, he wasn’t great at dealing with emotions of any kind, and sarcasm was his go-to, in order to deal with hard situations (I can relate). So wouldn’t it have had some slight comedic value? I mean, friends is built on the premise of a group banding together, and dealing with the harsh realities of the world, but also adding comedy to brighten up those dark days we all have. I think seeing chandler, a man who has trouble dealing with emotion due to childhood trauma, would have added something to the episode and maybe helped a few people deal in similar situations. Let me know what you think?

So, in this episode of friends, Ross sneaks off to Elizabeth’s family cabin with her for the weekend. Little do they know, Elizabeth’s father Paul, and Rachel had the same idea. While Elizabeth goes to the shop, to purchase “protection” (and I don’t mean from bears), Ross strips down to his man panties and lays in waiting for her return. Unfortunately for Ross, he got caught with his pants down, literally. Luckily for him the person that caught him, was Rachel. Rachel then tried to get him out, before Paul noticed. Incase you need to hit refresh in your memory (I often do), Elizabeth was one of Ross’s students, and their relationship was extremely frowned upon by the university, and Elizabeth’s father, who forbade them from dating, and made threats to Ross, to ensure the couple stayed apart, but of course, that didn’t happen. So, for the most part of their relationship, they kept it a secret from nearly everyone, apart from the gang. So when they decided to take their secret love affair to the cabin, the last person either of them wanted to run into, was Paul.

When Rachel and Paul first entered the cabin, Ross chose to hide underneath the sofa. I mean, he had time to go anywhere in the cabin, and the stairs leading to Elizabeth’s bedroom, where right behind him, but no, he ran round like a headless chicken, and then thought under the sofa looks like a great place to hide *facepalm*. When Rachel drops something, she discovers Ross under the sofa, she then gets rid of Paul so Ross can find a better hiding spot, so he doesn’t get castrated. What does Ross do? run round like a moron again and ended up in Pauls bedroom *bigger facepalm*. Obviously this was written for the comedy flare, but it does make you wonder how Ross managed to get that PHD.

Another thing I noticed with this episode, is when Elizabeth returns, she walks in and says ‘here i am!’ obviously meant for Ross. But as her father is sat in Ross’s place, her and Rachel quickly make the excuse, that Elizabeth was in fact talking to them as she “saw the tire tracks leading to the closed garage”. Which led me to start thinking, about how Ross and Elizebeth got to the cabin in the first place. The most likely scenario is that Ross drove them down there, in which case, how did Paul and Rachel not notice a car? and even if they didn’t notice a car (which seems unlikely), how does Paul think Elizabeth got to the cabin? As the overprotective father he is portrayed to be, you would think he would have some questions, as to how she got there, and why she would be staying in a cabin on her own overnight. I mean it’s just a thought, but it did puzzle me. What do you think?
